Dear Reader, When I think of Heart of the Night, I think of one of the characters in the book, late-night disc jockey Jared Snow. So do many of my readers, if the mail they send me is any indication. It’s his voice - always his voice - there on the radio, as soothing as a massage and twice as sexy. For me, Jared Snow is also a concept, the idea that a single voice on the radio is heard by many different people, with a different effect on each. I wrote Heart of the Night in 1988. I was still writing category romances at the time, but this book is different. In the solving of the kidnapping of a society wife, it has a strong element of mystery. In the relationship between twins Savannah and Susan, it explores the issue of sibling rivalry. And yes, it has a love story, but one that is deeper, stronger, and hotter than I had been allowed by the constraints of the genre. How does Jared Snow fit in? As Savannah and Susan look for the missing woman, the trail they follow leads to one desperate voice, that of an anonymous caller who pours out her heart to a certain radio personality. My writing style has changed since I wrote this book, but the heart and soul of my characters have not. The emotional intensity here is the very same that marks my current work. Please enjoy Heart of the Night as much as I did then -and do now. Warmly, Barbara Delinsky

Delinsky's style has changed in the latest books. There is a lot more written about the love scenes in the story, which is fine, but ten pages for each time? So it got a little boring at times. I miss the wonderful novels she used to write like Coast Road and Suddenly.Product details

Heart of the Night Barbara Delinsky Sandra Burr 9781441832474 Books Reviews
The three love stories provided varied plots and connection. Each woman had her insecurities fighting with her conception of the future.
I enjoyed this book very much with its believable characters and interesting relationships. As many books do it seemed to end up fairly abruptly would be my only criticism.
If you like Barbara Delinsky you'll love this book. If you haven't read her I would recommend trying. Great story line.
I like Barbara Delinsky's books mostly because she has such a gift in making her characters come to life on each page. "Heart of the Night" definitely has a lot of heart in it. Love, lust, friendship, conflicted loyalties, fraternal twins' jealousies, insecurities, duplicity, real men with you know whats, kidnapping, frame ups and death, and of course the jerks who are bosses and coworkers. The main treat is the pulsating, throbbing voice of Jared Snow the DJ who keeps the ladies in R.I. drooling and doing other things all night long.
I can recall having had a "crush" on an all night DJ's voice that was like smooth, creamy, luscious (fill in the blank with your choice) orgasmic-like delight. Mine? - melt in your mouth chocolates! Mmmmm.
Well, anyway, although this book was written back in the 80s, it has an aura of timelessness that the author comments upon herself. I agree. And, in my opinion, of all Delinsky's books this one will remain my favorite. It is a wonderful, thoughtful tale filled with deeply drawn characters who remain in your heart and mind long after the last page. Buy it, enjoy it, and have some luscious Godiva or Sees while you read.
This novel started out with a strong beginning. Then it switched to hot romance, which a little goes a long way for me. Then it switched to a lot of lovey dovey and strong sex. The crime and legal scenes were weak as was the ending. I generally love Barbara Delinsky, but I have to admit I was disappointed in this novel. It had a lot of potential, but it didn't live up to it.
This was an odd book for me. I never really engaged with any of the characters. The story was implausible. I'm glad I didn't pay full price. I've enjoyed many Delinsky books--just not this one. I thought the ending was unsatisfactory.
This was one of the best stories I have ever seen read! A great story line, great characters, so hard to put down. Once you start reading there is no stopping. A must read!
